And She WRITES!

“Love. Fall in love and stay in love. Write only what you love, and love what you write. The key word is love. You have to get up in the morning and write something you love, something to live for.”
                                                               ~ Ray Bradbury

I am sharing a poem Sadie has been working on in school.

It's not to brag about how gifted I think she is with her writing. (Ok, well..... maybe it is a little bit of bragging.) But mainly this "share session" is because I am so incredibly excited to see that God took my love of words and wrote his own novel in the genes of my youngest child. He gave her the tools required to express herself as her own story unfolds.

Always the Clown!
Sadie seems to have the best of both of her parents. She has my drive and desire coupled with Kerry's keen sense of observation and sensitive nature. She isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes nor is she short on words to get her point across on any topic under the sun. And now she is voicing those attributes through her writing. (And she even has my love for reading - yay!!)  My heart sings when I see this wonderful gift of communicating in my child.

This poem is supposed to be about where she is from. She has been thinking of ways to describe where she's from for about 2 weeks now - and I think she covers all the bases. (You can clearly see the references to her Mums' house in the tractor, truck, cows and horses comments! You can take the girl out of Hereford, but you can't take Hereford out of the girl's offspring!)

So....without further ado....

I’m from cuts and bruises
from climbing tall green trees

I’m from sloppy wet kisses
from dogs waiting for me to walk up to the door

I’m from warm golden brown biscuits and sweet homemade plum jelly
from freshly picked vegetables from the garden.

I’m from a seedling to a tall sunflower
from small footprints to large footprints

I’m from Cowboy boots and spurs
from horses and cattle

I’m from rays from the sun shining down on me
from dark soft skin

I’m from the keyboard clicking when my mother types on the computer
from the sizzle as my dad lays the meat on the grill

I’m from Ford pickup trucks
from big tall green and yellow John Deer tractors

I’m from brothers and sister who fight like cats and dogs but love as fiercely as a family of bears from take it in to shake it off

I’m from a place where I am loved and never forgotten
